I won’t just survive
Oh, you will see me thrive
Can’t write my story
I’m beyond the archetype
I won’t just conformRise.R
No matter how you shake my core
‘Cause my roots, they run deep, oh

Oh, ye of so little faith
Don’t doubt it, don’t doubt it
Victory is in my veins
I know it, I know it
And I will not negotiate
I’ll fight it, I’ll fight it
I will transform

When, when the fire’s at my feet again
And the vultures all start circling
They’re whispering, “You’re out of time,”
But still I rise
This is no mistake, no accident
When you think the final nail is in
Think again
Don’t be surprised
I will still rise

I must stay conscious
Through the madness and chaos
So I call on my angels
They say

Oh, ye of so little faith
Don’t doubt it, don’t doubt it
Victory is in your veins
You know it, you know it
And you will not negotiate
Just fight it, just fight it
And be transformed

‘Cause when, when the fire’s at my feet again
And the vultures all start circling
They’re whispering, “You’re out of time,”
But still I rise
This is no mistake, no accident
When you think the final nail is in
Think again
Don’t be surprised
I will still rise

Don’t doubt it, don’t doubt it
Oh, oh, oh, oh
You know it, you know it
Still rise
Just fight it, just fight it
Don’t be surprised
I will still rise

I’m a blah-ger.

tl;dr / my life via gifs

For more deets:

Last time I blogged was April 25, 2016. Since then:

  • My husband ran the Pittsburgh Marathon on May 1st and did fantastic because he’s fantastic;
  • I turned elderly (32) years old on May 25;
  • …June, July, and August were stupid;
  • My company hosted another All Hands in September. I didn’t wear my hamburger costume from last year. I upgraded to a taco costume. #classy;
  • My husband ran the Wineglass Marathon on October 2nd and PR’d (4:11:14) while I stood for six hours and complained to strangers about being hungry and thirsty;
  • My husband and I went to Chicago and saw my brother get married. It was a beautiful ceremony and I was an emotional hot mess;
  • My husband and I went on a seven day cruise to Mexico, Belize, and Honduras. I experienced seasickness for the second time in my life and yeah, I’ve decided to keep cruising until I don’t feel it anymore!

You’re all caught up now. Aren’t you glad I blahg every six months now? Please let me know what you’ve been up to because you know, I’m polite.

Have an amazing weekend, everyone!

April 2016 Favorites!

People said I need to blog more so here I is. I was so underwhelmed by peer pressure that I decided to start something new: monthly favorites! Now, these aren’t necessarily new discoveries, but let’s be real – everything’s pretty much new to me. Like, did you know that this existed?!

As you can see, I didn’t go in-depth with my reviews because the things mentioned above are my favorites so boom!, already been reviewed. Anyway, those are some things I’ve been loving this month. Check ’em out if you dare!

Also, it’s my birthday in exactly one month. I’m telling you this so you can start planning accordingly.

I mean, it’s almost been a year!

Well, this blog post (all of them, really) is pointless so let’s just get that out of the way.

Pittsburgh-1 Everywhere else-0

A lot has happened, but I’m always asked the same question. Are you still in Pittsburgh? Why yes, yes I am! Can we move on to my highlights or do you want to keep interrogating me?! Geez.

So, my awesome company holds an annual All Hands aka a week of fun and fellowship. It’s a wonderful way to get to know people you’ve met once, twice, or maybe not at all. Yes, I’m in the front wearing a hamburger costume. Don’t ask. Also, don’t ask about all the middle fingers. I.don’t.know.

We’re a beautiful bunch.

Cha-ching cha-ching! We’re debt free as of November 28th! It was an amazing moment to make one last student loan payment the day we left for an 11 day cruise. Thanks, Dave Ramsey …and common sense.

Oh! Our cruise! As mentioned above, we went on an 11 day cruise and I experienced seasickness for the first time. It was pretty awful and if that was a glimpse of what it’s like to have a baby come out of your butt, no thanks. NO. THANKS. Anyway, we sailed out of Port Canaveral and stopped at:

  • Grand Turk
  • St. Thomas
  • Tortola
  • St. Kitts
  • Dominica
  • St. Lucia
  • Antigua
  • St. Croix
  • San Juan

So many places. All I remember is that St. Thomas was my absolute favorite and Dominica was… well, not my favorite. I saw a stray dog steal food off someone’s chair. I was really happy for the dog.

We won trivia and got this plastic piece of shit as a prize.

This sums up perfection.

I’m not a masochist, really. I just like piercings and ink. Since last year, I’ve gotten five more piercings (monroe and double helix on each ear) and started and finished a half sleeve within three months.

This was the second session. I wanted to rip my arm off. Came close, too.

That brings us to the present. My husband and I keep a highlight jar. We sit down at the beginning of each year and – you guessed it – go through the jar of highlights. A lot of people wonder why we care about the past, but a lot of it is looking back on how far we’ve come and to give thanks for being able to live another year amidst moments of joy and struggle.

Always give thanks.

Well, that sums up the year. Trust me, there were a lot of awesome memories, but these are the ones that overflowed my love tank. I hope you guys are doing well and are staying safe and healthy!

Oh yeah. WordPress.

It’s funny. I got an email from WordPress saying it was going to renew my blog and I was all like, “What blog?” and the email was all like, “Cate the Okay”, and I was like:

This is how it went.

So much has happened, but I honestly can’t remember any of it. I start to jot things down and then everything becomes a giant doodle of bumblebees and I don’t even care for them, really.

May has been a fun month! I ran a 5K with my husband and then watched him run a full marathon the next day, went to Amarillo and OKC, chopped off my hair and got it re-ombred (that’s a word, right?), and turned 31. I prefer 31 over 30 because now, I’m officially in my 30’s. People who turn 30 go through a year of denial – that’s the worst. I’m finally working on my sleeve so yay for progress and yay for tattoos and yay for life. Yay.

I’ll admit that I do have a lot on my mind and a lot to process, but I’m alive and well. No complaints, no ragrets. Not even a single letter.

February should be spelled Feburary.

So, my last post was on January 4th. I’d say I’m doing pretty well with blogging, wouldn’t you agree? There’s really no excuse. I’ve been busy and maaaybe too lazy to blog, but here I am and here we go.

Blue Apron
Matt and I have been using Blue Apron since December and it’s been going well. Nothing is too difficult to cook; however, some meals look questionable so the whole cooking process seems pointless. We’re trying new things and are pleasantly surprised with some of the dishes.

Chicken with Potato Latkes & Crème Fraîche

 “Ombre, bro!”
My hair has always been… blah. Plain black, not jet black like Claudia from The Baby-Sitters Club, but frizzy and charcoal looking. (BTW, I’ve read every single book in that series. #proud) Anyway, I decided to do something to my hair:

What’s up, Ombro?

I’m diggin’ it. It’s definitely more intense when straightened, but that’s my middle name… Catherine “Intense Hair”. My husband now calls me “Ombro” because you know, nicknames.

Istanbul Sofra
Good food, awful service. My boss sent me a gift card to try out a new restaurant, which was perfect because Matt and I are trying new foods. Apparently, Chipotle 24/7 isn’t healthy. Anyway, thanks again, Byers!

Cigarette Borek and Shish Kebab

Sick Furbaby :(
Jill has been sick. We recently found out she has heart murmurs and is now battling a respiratory infection. We’ll probably need to take her to the vet again and that just sucks. We took Jill to the vet on her birthday and it reminded me of when we took Jack to the vet on his birthday and then he died a month later. I was (still am) emotional because if you know me, you know I love my cats often times more than humans. I hate seeing my furbabies in pain so prayers are appreciated.

Poor Jillygirl.

Financial Peace University
We finished the course a little while ago and it was awesome. We learned a lot and we’ve changed the way we view and handle money.

How I feel when I’m kicking debt’s butt.

We’re down to paying off our last chunk of debt. It’ll probably take a year or so, but we see the light at the end of the tunnel and it’s encouraging. My only regret? Not starting FPU sooner.

Matthew ❤
I love February solely for the fact that it’s my husband’s birth month. I don’t know what I’d do without him. He truly is my better half. Happy Birthday, Mr. Ganinanator!

Me and my boo!

Hello 2015; Let’s be besties.

resized_i-should-buy-a-boat-cat-meme-generator-realizing-the-vacation-s-almost-over-i-should-do-some-work-48a184I go back to work tomorrow and I’m okay with that. Sure, I’d like to watch Arrow all day long and have my husband pretend to murder me with a Lightsaber, but yeah, I’m ready.

People have been asking me about New Year’s resolutions. The more I thought about it, well, I concluded I’m not a resolutioner. I mean, I used to be but always rebelled against everything I wanted to do/change. Lose weight? Sure, five Chipotle burritos should do the trick. Become smarter? Sure, watching Keeping up with the Kardashians will help.

Anyway, instead of sharing resolutions, I thought I’d share my top highlights of 2014.

  1. Started working for an awesome company called Formstack;
  2. Lost 40 lbs. Well, more like 30 because a Pilgrim and Santa said it was okay to eat all the things!;
  3. Finished Financial Peace University, paid off a lot of debt, and will continue to do so;
  4. Joined a gym that I actually like;
  5. Celebrated a year of marriage. ♡

I’m ready for 2015. I’m excited for 2015. I’m 2015. …That doesn’t make sense, but it just felt right to type. Moving on…

What were your highlights of 2014?

Happy (early) Holidays!

happy-holidayI just wanted to wish you all Happy Holidays! I’m excited to stay in Pittsburgh and spend time with friends and family. (Shout-out to my family and friends in Chicago!)

I’m probably going to stay offline for a couple of weeks (with the exception of Instagram, of course) so I wanted to wish you all well and we’ll talk in… 2015.

I hope yins have an amazing holiday season. Have lots of fun AND stay safe. Until next time, my friends! :) OH and here are a couple of cute, funny, cat memes because you know, why not?

Starbucks, Punk Goes Pop, and the Old Man

I decided to follow Matt to work today. Back up. I decided to follow Matt to work today because he drove instead of taking the bus. Back up again. I decided to follow Matt to work today because he drove instead of taking the bus because we’re getting our car detailed in his company’s parking garage. Back up one more time. I decided to follow Matt to work today because he drove instead of taking the bus because we’re getting our car detailed in his company’s parking garage because Yanni the Yaris causes allergic reactions. I’m usually tidy…

I’m not a fan of waking up super early, but I needed a change of scenery. Why? Well, my cats demand tea parties every day. It’s just too much! So here I am, at a Starbucks, listening to Punk Goes Pop 6 on repeat. There’s also an old man sitting next to me and I’m pretty sure he can hear my music because he’s grooving. That and/or he may not be all there. Still, I appreciate his company. [Update: He left me for a pop princess. Go figure.]

Matt and I had lunch at Noodles & Company, which had all kinds of, you guessed it, noodles. Then we went to Prantl’s Bakery where I ordered all the deliciousness (well, just two things) and it was incredible.

Today was a simple but great day. I hope yins had a great one, too.

Thanksgiving 2014: Chicago Edition

Were in the car for nine hours. Ate dinner at the ‘rents. Saw grandparents. Ate lunch with big bro. Did the touristy thing. Were in the car for nine hours…. again.

I should win storyteller of the year. Maybe in 2015. Anyway, until next year, Chi. ♥

It was a cloudy day so really, the dark filter adds pizzazz.

More Chicago.

Oh and you know, Chicago again.
