The Color Run: 2014 Kaleidoscope Tour

So, I officially ran my first fun run! Now, I’ve run several 5Ks on a treadmill but never outdoors. It was an interesting + fun + odd experience. Running in 15-20 degree weather was painful // Those walking were annoying and inconsiderate and annoying // I was pelted in the face (eyes, mainly) with color bombs.

I ran 3.19 miles in 42:58. Unfortunately, I had to take a bathroom and water break so my time wasn’t ideal, but at least I finished. Huzzah!

I don’t know if I’ll run this ever again – maybe I’ll actually get to run Color Me Rad next year and not end up in the ER the day before. *fingers crossed*

ARL + My “First” 5K = Please Donate!

On 5/2/15, I’ll run my first 5K at the Pittsburgh Marathon. I’m signed up to run The Color Run on November 15th, but I’ll more or less be run walking so I can get pelted with color bombs. I mean, that’s the whole point, right?

Matt and I are running for the Animal Rescue League where we adopted Jack, the handsomest Tuxedo cat Pittsburgh had ever seen. Matt will be running the 5K with me on Saturday and then running the full on Sunday. He’s my hero.

This race means a lot to us because every single mile will be dedicated to animals who deserve love, animals who are waiting to find their forever homes, animals, like Jack, who were abused by previous owners and left to die.

My goal is to raise $500 for the ARL. It would mean the world to me if you’d take the time to share my link or even consider making a donation to such a worthy cause. I know 3.1 miles isn’t a long distance, but in this case, every step counts.

Begging cat begs for your donations!

The Soap Box: 2014 Fall Edition

The Details: $19.99 (U.S.), $28.00 (Canada), $38.00 (International) for a quarterly subscription box. Inside, there’s a cutely, decorated card letting you know the name of the products and how to use them.

%22There's No Place Like Home%22 Fortune Cookie Soap

“There’s No Place Like Home” Fortune Cookie Soap: It was love at first smell. I’m a huge fan of cinnamon and this was straight up cinnamon soap with a hint of ginger and other spices. The soap can definitely get a little funky if you don’t store it properly so I also purchased the Exfoliating Soap Saver Bath Accessory.

Fortune: “People seldom see the halting and painful steps by which the most insignificant success is achieved.” -Anne Sullivan

"Roy G. Biv" OCD Hand Sanitizer

“Roy G. Biv” OCD Hand Sanitizer: I was a huge a fan of last season’s hand sanitizer. This time around, not so much. It smells like rubbing alcohol, mixed with nail polish remover. It was supposed to smell like “dusky breezes and bonfires, wind-blown leaves and charred woods brightened by notes of lemon, mandarin, cotton blossom and soft vanilla”. Yeah, no.

%22BFFS%22 Whipped Cream

“BFFS” Whipped Cream: If you love the smell of pumpkin pie, you’ll love this whipped cream. This has a body butter consistency, which can be hard to apply. Just warm it up in your hands and you should be good to go.

%22Swankified%22 Walnut Facial Scrub

“Swankified” Walnut Facial Scrub: I feel like FCS makes the absolute best facial scrubs. Exfoliating and moisturizing at the same time – unheard of! It smells exactly like the description: walnuts, cake batter, and bananas. I tried to order the full size and it’s been sold out for a while. I’m a sad panda.

"Miss Popular" Bubble Bath Powder

Just imagine this in powder form. Photo courtesy of

“Miss Popular” Bubble Bath Powder: I’ll be honest, the powder looks like cocaine/anthrax and I don’t want to bathe in that. I know I’m being ridiculous, but I’ve never been a fan of “bath powder”.

%22Hair Flip%22 Hair Oil

“Hair Flip” Hair Oil: A little goes a long way and this stuff works wonders. This fixes flyaways and adds major shine to your hair. I can definitely see this being perfect for the fall and winter months. The scent? Hazelnut and vanilla. The taste? Well, just stick to the scent. Also, where’s the label!?

"Flying Monkeys" Personal Space Air Freshener:

“Flying Monkeys” Personal Space Air Freshener: It smelled like cough medicine. No one wants a room to smell like cough medicine. Unless you’re congested because you’re sick. Then maybe you’d want something to smell like cough medicine.

%22The Shiz%22 Perfume Oil

“The Shiz” Perfume Oil: Shiz pretty much sums up this product. I took a whiff and immediately threw it away because no one should ever want to smell like “a woodland hike through damp balsam woods, with top notes of maple leaves blowing through new dawn blossom, laurel and sweet clove”. Let’s dwell on some keywords that make me cringe: woodland hike, damp, leaves. Oh and again, where’s the label!?

I wasn’t a huge fan of this season’s soap box so here’s to hoping that Winter’s box brings me joy.

Oh September, where have you gone?

Wow, it’ll be October in two days. Math, amirite? But in all seriousness, the last time I blogged, I did a recap of how my month would go and now, now it’s almost over and we’re entering the holiday season.

I had a great time in Jamaica, Indy, and Philly. Well, not so much Philly, but that’s beside the point. Now, time for pics galore because that’s all you’re here for, right? Right!

Also, 99.9% of these pics are from Instagram because ain’t nobody got time for fresh pics.

JAMAICA 9/6-9/11:

I hate flying, but pictures like this, well, it kind of makes up for it.

Miami definitely photographs well.

The Cruiser

This was my first drink in months and months and months. I definitely needed one after long flights and too many people up in my personal space.

Breaking records

So, we ran the first two days of our cruise. It’s not easy running while on a giant, rocking boat. However, I was so annoyed that I apparently ran faster and broke dem records!

It rained a lot, which was depressing. Still, I made the most of it.

Bobsleddin' in Ocho Rios

This was my favorite excursion at Ocho Rios. We were on a bobsled… the speed controlled by my husband… he never used the brakes. There’s a video of me just screaming and laughing.

Grand Cayman: Stingrays

I was most excited about this excursion, but the tide ruined all the fun. Still, I was able to pet a stringray. They’re pretty cute even with their barb.

Rasta Pasta!

We decided to reward ourselves with some delicious, non-cruise food. I had the Rasta Pasta, which had the Best. Jerk. Chicken. Ever.

Towel Animals

Everysinglenight, we’d come across some kind of towel art on our bed. One freaked us out. Can you guess which one? If not, let me give you a hint: The one that looks like it’s wearing a straitjacket.

Thanks, Carnival!

Thanks, pretty sunsets!

We had a lot of fun, but were thankful to get back to Miami and head home.

Cheeseballs + Shaving cream

Field Day consisted of fun and messy games. This one was my favorite because the burning sensation told me to say that.

Cuban breakfast with pork sausage

Seriously, the best breakfast I’ve ever had. Cuban breakfast with pork sausage at Patachou’s (aka Patchy).

Impromptu group pic. Also, why am I the only one genuinely smiling?

Sugar packet napkins

I ate a potsticker that was more goo than anything else. I was given sugar packets instead of napkins. Thanks guys!

Thanks for the memories, Indy!

I miss Indy + Formstackers, but at least I have this awesome mug to remember the trip.

PHILLY 9/20-9/21:

Sheraton Downtown Philadelphia

This was our view from the Sheraton Downtown Philadelphia. What makes this view so awesome is that we got our club deluxe room FO FREE.

Logan Circle Fountain

Logan Circle Fountain

RnR Philly Marathon

Tons of people showed up for the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon.

Another medal to add to Matt’s growing collection.

Homebound for real.

Oh and just because…

iPhone 6

This is my new bestie, Penny. She’s awesome.

Where in the World Is Catey Sandiego?

Do you remember that show? I do and miss. it. so. much. Anyway, it’s been a while and I apologize for that. Life has been cray! A good cray, of course. Why do I keep saying cray? Cray.

Moving on, let me explain what’s been going on WITH GIFs because life isn’t complete without them.

  1. I went from being an independent contractor to a full-time employee at Formstack. (Waahoo!)
  2. I leave for Jamaica in 3 days. (YUSSS!)
  3. I fly out to Indy to meet all my co-workers in 13 days. (*fist pump minus the sweaty pits*)
  4. I get to watch Matt run the Philly half in 18 days. (Go Matt, go!)
  5. Matt and I start Financial Peace University. (Make it rain!)
  6. Random, but I ran 6 miles. 6! No GIF necessary.

We’re only 3 days in, but I’m loving September. I mean, I’m probably going to get sick and perhaps lose my mind a few times, but it’s worth it.

It’s totally worth it.

Favorite Running Songs

Ignore the dips. When I set my phone down, it thought I was giving up on life.

I ran five miles today. It look me over an hour, which is sad, but hey, I ran five miles!

*high fiving a million angels*

I’ve found that running with music and a TV in the background is pretty awesome. After 15 minutes or so, I’m in the zone aka I veer toward one side of the treadmill and almost die.

Run, Cate Run Album Cover

I have a playlist on Rdio called Run Cate, Run! Just in case you didn’t know, it’s for running. There are 77 songs totaling 289 minutes, which if I ever run for almost five hours, I’d better be running for my life. Some songs are better than others. Some songs make me run faster. Some songs make me question my taste in music.

So, without further ado, let me tell you my favorite running songs:

  1. Wake Me Up – Avicii
  2. A LOT of David Guetta: Crank It Up (feat. Akon); Just One Last Time (feat. Taped Rai); Where Them Girls At (feat. Nicki Minaj & Flo Rida); Titanium (feat. Sia); Sexy Bitch (feat. Akon)
  3. Can’t Hold Us (feat. Ray Dalton) – Macklemore & Ryan Lewis
  4. Hall of Fame – The Script
  5. #thatPOWER –
  6. Turn Down for What – DJ Snake & Lil Jon
  7. Party Rock Anthem – LMFAO
  8. Jai Ho! – A.R. Rahman
  9. Everlong – Foo Fighters
  10. Not Afraid – Eminem
  11. Problem – Ariana Grande
  12. OMG – Usher
  13. Stronger – Kanye West
  14. Lose Control (feat. Ciara, Fat Man Scoop) – Missy Elliot
  15. Jump (feat. Nelly Furtado) – Flo Rida
  16. Pound The Alarm – Nicki Minaj
  17. Crank That [Travis Barker Remix] – Soulja Boy
  18. Skullcandy – The Glitch Mob
  19. Run the World (Girls) – Beyoncé
  20. And last but not least… Gangnam Style – Psy

What are some of your favorite songs to listen to while running/working out?

Quick Update

Matt and I celebrated five years on August 1st. In eight days, we’ll celebrate one year of marriage. I can’t believe how quickly this year has gone by. We were warned that the first year of marriage would be a huge struggle, but this has been the best year of my life. I hope Matt can say the same, haha. We decided not to do anything extravagant for our anniversaries just because soon, we’re going on a cruise to Jamaica. That’s our gift to each other.

ASICS GEL-Cumulus® 16

I’m not going to lie. I’ve been running everyday. I don’t know what has gotten into me. It’s definitely more enjoyable when Matt runs next to me. Sometimes he’ll look over and give me a thumbs up – something so simple that helps me re-focus. I definitely want to run a 5K, start small and see what happens. Above, are my new kicks that I’ve named “The Mermaid”. I’m definitely digging them so far. My Nike Flex Run 2014’s tore after a couple of weeks of wear so there’s that.

Alright, well, nothing else is going on. I’m pretty boring, huh? Anyway, I hope you guys are having an awesome week so far!

When Do You Part Ways?

“You will evolve past certain people. Let yourself.” ―Mandy Hale

I’ve had the privilege of living in many different states and meeting some amazing people. However, with that comes seasonal friendships. Many people rave about seasonal friendships because you can pick up where you left off with no problems, but that’s just it. It’s becoming a problem. I’ll admit that when I was younger, it was pretty convenient. I didn’t have to keep tabs on anyone or make much of an effort because when the time came to reconnect, there was this mutual understanding:

I had forgotten all about you until Facebook told me it was your birthday. HAPPY BIRTHDAY, OMG, LET’S CHAT SOON!!11!!!!!1

I guess now that I’m older, I want consistent friendships that go beyond the surface, that have a new, mutual understanding:

I’m here for you. I’ll speak truth in love but also be quick to listen.

I mean, really, is it too much to ask someone to be a non-seasonal friend?

RainbowsI can’t believe it’s July. What happened to June? May? April? Mar–okay, you get it.

Matt and I left Thursday night for Fremont, IN. According to Google Maps, the trip should’ve taken four and a half hours. WRONG. More like five and a half. Anyway, we arrived at the lake house around 10:30pm and after saying hello to family, we quickly said good night.

Friday morning, we had breakfast and hit the outlet mall. We did some damage even though it didn’t seem like it at the time.

ReceiptsAfter we “shopped until we dropped”, we watched the adorable pups go for a swim. I’m all about swimming, but there was an intense breeze and I wasn’t having it. I decided to put my new camera to good use and I’m glad I did.

Mac and Skye

Mac and Skye Life Jackets

Mac and Skye Swimming

Schatzi SwimmingAren’t they so precious!? Seriously, I had so much fun watching them have a blast. After the furbabies had fun in the sun, we headed to dinner at Ole Lake George Retreat. I ordered the Sashimi Tuna and it was fabulous.

Sashimi TunaThe tuna was seared perfectly and I wish I could’ve had a few more plates. After dinner, we got ice cream at Scoops. I should’ve taken a picture, but I didn’t waste time devouring my two scoops of Bear Claw. It was seriously amazing and I miss it. Like, a lot.

SkyeWhen we got home, we just relaxed on the deck. Skye was my buddy and kept me company until another dog walked by. Then he left me, which is the story of my life. *enter ugly cry face*

Deck @ SunsetMatt and I left Saturday afternoon and while it was a short trip, it was nice to get away even just for a little while.

I hope you guys had a wonderful Fourth of July!

The Soap Box: 2014 Summer Edition

2014 Summer Soap BoxI heard about The Soap Box from a couple of beauty bloggers I follow on YouTube. I always enjoyed watching and reading their reviews so I decided to join in on the fun!

The Details: $19.99 (U.S.), $28.00 (Canada), $38.00 (International) for a quarterly subscription box. Inside, there’s a cutely, decorated card letting you know the name of the products and how to use them.

Summer Soap“Lick Your Lips” Fortune Cookie Soap: At first, I thought this smelled like laundry detergent. When you take the soap out of the wax paper, it no longer smells like laundry detergent or even what it’s supposed to smell like: peppermint ice cream with flecks of dark chocolate. It just smells like waxy mint if that even makes sense. I’ll be honest, I haven’t tried this yet because 1) I can’t get over the smell and 2) Fortune Cookie Soap ran out of soap savers/dishes so I’m just kind of… waiting.

Fortune: “I can’t complain, but sometimes I still do.”

Summer Wax Tart“Sweet Dreamsicle” Wax Tart: This straight up smells like tropical goodness. There’s hints of orange and vanilla, which somehow translates into this lovely pineapple scent. I use a Glade Wax Warmer with this and the smell instantly fills every room.

Summer Body Scrub“Rock Your Socks Off” Solid Sugar Scrub: This smells like grape and feels like awesomeness. I recommend wetting the scrub and then applying it to your body. Don’t stand under the shower or soak in a tub unless you want it to dissolve quickly. I also feel like there’s a moisturizing component to this. It left my skin feeling smooth without having to use lotion. Great product that I would definitely repurchase.

Summer Face Scrub“Lemon Drop It Like It’s Hot” Microdermabrasion Facial Scrub: This is unlike any facial scrub I’ve ever used. Usually there’s a few scrubbies that you kind of have to move all around in order to get any kind of exfoliation. With this, I felt like I was rubbing sand all over my face. That might sound odd, but it felt really nice. The smell was a bit off. The card said “lemon peel essence and orange zest”, but the first thing I thought of was oatmeal – both the look and smell.

Summer Lip Scrub“Blow Me!” Lip Scrub: The texture of this particular lip scrub was very interesting. Most scrubs are gritty but this one was almost moisturizing. It wasn’t too harsh but was still getting the job done. Oh and the smell? Bubblegum, of course.

Summer Body Butter “Captain’s Berried Booty” Whipped Cream: Holy deliciousness! This smells exactly like Captain Crunch cereal AND is very hydrating. Another product I’d repurchase!

Summer Hand Sanitizer“Lollipop Your Cherry” OCD Hand Sanitizer: I don’t really care for anything cherry-related so I was happy to read that there was also vanilla, orange, and pineapple. Not only does this smell wonderful, but it’s super moisturizing. I often find that hand sanitizers will leave my hands feeling very dry. I carry this in my purse and find any excuse to use it. “Oh, I accidentally touched a clean napkin. Gotta use some hand sani!”

Summer Body Glitter“The Sweet Spot” Sparkle Me: I don’t like glitter unless it’s on a greeting card and I don’t even really like that. This would be perfect for a person who is 1) tan and 2) likes the look of someone who bathes in glitter. I closed my eyes, sprayed this on my arm and forgot about the glitter for a moment. It smelled like Hawaiian Punch. Yay for smell, nay for look.
